The Poonur River, which flows along the northern part of Kakkodi Grama Panchayat, was very important for transportation in the past. Timber was transported from the eastern hilly areas to Mooriyat, which is famous for its timber trade, in rafts. The sight of the timber rafts moving continuously day and night is fascinating. Kakkodi is an agricultural region blessed with the presence of the Poonnoor River, which originates from the Western Ghats and meanders through the hilly rural areas, and the calmly flowing Akalapuzha River in the north. Chelannoor and Kuruvattoor panchayats are located in the north-eastern parts respectively. The city of Kozhikode, the seat of the historic Zamorin kings, is adjacent to this region. Geographically, this region belongs to the Edanad region. It is blessed with rolling hills, lush green valleys and natural streams.
